    1. Wonderful pictorial of Chicago's early days! Although I originally thought it would be filled with many of the same photos seen before, some gruesome, I was pleasantly surprised to see many that were not gruesome in any way and a large portion of them I had never seen before. If I hadn't looked at the title, I probably would not have associated it with crime at all, but more of an early history of Chicago.     2. This book is an interesting look at the not so glamorous era of the Chicago crime era. Though some photos were obviously posed, most were taken while the subjects of them were unaware. I have enjoyed all of the books in the "Historic Photographs" series which I have read. They are easily accessible to the casual reader and also bring something new to the table of the professional historian. This is most especially true of "Historic Photos of Chicago Crime".     3. I love this city. I love its sordid history, its transformation, and its way of keeping its reputation.And, you know what? I love gangsters.The best part of this book is probably on page 198-199, a map entitled "Sing a Song of Gangsters".I take that back. The absolute best part of this book is actually the fact that it makes me want to explore the city more, read up on the history, go to the Chicago history Museum, visit the cemeteries, all sorts of things.
